Each Module should take approximately two weeks. You will complete a quiz and an assignment for each module. Expect an assessment each Friday, unless specified otherwise. You must be present for all assessments. If an asessment is missed due to a planned or foreseeable absence, it is your responsibility to arrange to complete the assessment ahead of time. In case of illness, you are expected to complete the assessment immediately upon return.
Reuse and building upon ideas or code are major parts of modern software development. As a professional programmer you will never write anything from scratch.
You are expected to attempt problems and exercises independently and arrive at your own solutions before consulting with your peers. Blindly copying and pasting others'
solutions is not only plagiarism, but is also a waste of time, as you'll cheat yourself out of learning to be a better programmer. However, this class is structured in
such a way that you may, and are encouraged to, learn from the work of your peers.
Please respect the terms of use and/or license of any code you find, and if you reimplement
or duplicate an algorithm or code from elsewhere, credit the original source with an inline comment.
If you are unsure as to what constitutes plagiarism, here is the definition of plagiarism that has been adopted by NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies:
"Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work as though it were one's own. More specifically, plagiarism is to present as one's own words quoted without quotation marks from
another writer; a paraphrased passage from another writer’s work; or facts or ideas gathered, organized, and reported by someone else, orally and/or in writing.
Since plagiarism is a matter of fact, not of the student's intention, it is crucial that acknowledgement of the sources be accurate and complete.
Even where there is not a conscious intention to deceive, the failure to make appropriate acknowledgement constitutes plagiarism."
Penalties for plagiarism are outlined in our school's student handbook
